Balavina Over the Sink Colander: Expandable Stainless Steel Strainer
An over-the-sink colander handles one of the most frequent kitchen tasks—draining pasta, rinsing vegetables, and straining ingredients without mess. The Balavina expandable strainer combines a practical design with durable materials to serve as a dependable kitchen tool for everyday cooking. Whether you're preparing fresh produce or finishing off a pot of pasta, this strainer is designed to accommodate most standard sink widths while keeping cleanup simple.
Design and Fit
The Balavina colander features an expandable handle system that extends from 13.4 inches to 21.3 inches, making it adaptable to most kitchen sink sizes. The rubber grip handle provides a non-slip surface for safe handling, even when the strainer is wet or full. At 9.5 inches wide and 3.3 inches deep, the basket rests securely over your sink rim without requiring installation.
The strainer is constructed from stainless steel, which resists corrosion and maintains its appearance through regular use. The fine mesh net basket allows efficient water drainage while containing smaller ingredients and pasta securely.
Versatile Kitchen Uses
This colander works well for multiple straining tasks throughout your cooking routine:
- Draining cooked pasta, rice, and grains
- Rinsing fresh vegetables and fruits
- Straining sauces, gravies, and soups
- Handling both thick and thin wet ingredients
The heat-resistant design means you can use it immediately after cooking without waiting for ingredients to cool. The colander also features legs that allow it to sit flat on your countertop, making it useful for storing or organizing produce when not actively draining.
Practical Care and Storage
Cleanup is straightforward with this model—the entire strainer is dishwasher safe, allowing you to clean it with your other dishes rather than hand-washing. The smooth stainless steel surface resists food residue buildup and doesn't retain odors or stains from frequent use.
Note that the manufacturer recommends avoiding placing overly heavy items into the sink strainer during use, as this could cause deformation despite the sturdy construction.
The Balavina expandable colander addresses the basic need for reliable draining in busy kitchens. Its combination of adjustable sizing, durable materials, and straightforward maintenance makes it a practical addition to your kitchen essentials collection.
